Reportage at the d’Orsay

October 30th, 2007 · No Comments · Photography

If you can wade through the series of transit strikes that have plagued Paris in recent weeks, head to the Musée d’Orsay, the spectacular museum built inside an old rail station. The museum currently has a photography exhibition of prints from its collection, featuring 19th and 20th century reportage from such seminal photographers as Strand, Hill, Négre, and de Meyer. The exhibit runs through January 6, 2008. Read the museum’s description of the show here. Well presented, the exhibit also features several original paper negatives, that are back-lit for optimal viewing. The photographs from the mid-19th century, of farm laborers, impoverished children, and the rigors of daily life at that time, are emotionally charged and poignant.
