Irreverent photo tool of the week

Denture_waxIf you have read previous “Irreverent photo tool” entries you know that I like sticky wax for studio sets. Some sticky wax has a tendency to melt under hot lights. That can be a cleanup problem, and if something is held in a precarious position by the wax it can fall just as you are about to shoot it (collective groan in the studio). For those times when the wax on set might be exposed a little too closely to the heat of your lighting, this orthodontic wax comes in handy (different from the denture wax I wrote about). Because it is made to stick to braces it’s already made for a warm environment, and of course it is water proof (handy if you’re shooting food). It’s tackiness is different from the previous wax I wrote about and since different surfaces bond to different chemicals, it’s a good idea to keep a variety of waxes around to tack down props. Buy this or something similar at any pharmacy, and keep it around for those moments when you need to tack something down quickly for the shot.Posted by Steve Weinrebe
