Long ago, in a land far away, I began disliking my old shoulder pads – the cheaply made, hard-as-nails pads that came as an extra with new camera bags. Over the years, while developing photographer’s scoliosis, I carried a heavy camera bag pretty much wherever I went. Then, a couple of decades ago at a trade show, I discovered the postman’s shoulder pad developed by Jim Domke, and bought one for every bag I owned. Moulded to the shoulder with a wedge of rubber, this pad evens out the weight of a heavy camera bag, and grips the shoulder nicely. Tiffen, which now owns the Domke product line, still sells the USPO shoulder pad. If you are starting to walk lopsided just like a pro, pick one up for each of your bags asap.
