Just back from a great week in Maine at the Maine Media Workshops, teaching the October Advanced Digital Photography class. I love teaching this class, a great mix of LOTS of photography and LOTS of Photoshop. The students were the stars, they soaked up the Photoshop workflow from Bridge to Camera Raw to Photoshop’s tools and adjustments.
The students’ work really shined at the Friday night slide show and they should be proud of their beautiful color images, black-and-white, and panoramas of the Maine coast and all the locations we visited. Hats off to (alphabetical) Chris, Ellen, Eric, Jeff, and Jen; and to my outstanding teaching assistant Emily (in the sky with diamonds).
A few highlights of the week:
- Having a lighting bootcamp (and pizza party) along with Rick Sammon’s class. Anyone that knows Rick Sammon’s excellent work (books, videos, workshops) can imagine that was pretty much a BLAST!
- Photographing the skipper of the Monhegan Island ferries, listening to tall tales the whole time.
- Getting, as a group, the whole concept of how Photoshop sees a mask (and producing the work that came from this level of control).
- Photographing the boat building workshop, Atlantic Challenge, in Rockland, and getting free run of the 3 story complex and yards.
- And finally I don’t think anyone will forget Elmer’s Barn, and of course Elmer.
Great time all, and thanks to The Workshops for hosting a great week!
