Thanks to the PDN team for making PhotoPlus Expo 2009 such a great event! Thanks as well to the attendees that turned out Saturday morning for my seminar, Irreverent Photoshop! We had a great time and everyone learned a lot in the jam packed 3 hour seminar. If you’re an attendee checking in to my blog, you’ll be receiving a PDF of the handout in your email from the PDN folks, and thanks again for turning out.
The show itself was impressive this year, even with the absence of both Adobe and Apple. Apple’s absence didn’t surprise me because they have been pulling out of other trade shows over the past year in favor of their own media events. The lack of Adobe’s presence was a shocker though and it’s sad to think they are throwing all their trade show efforts elsewhere. Let’s hope the Adobe pavilion is front and center again at PhotoPlus 2010, where it belongs.
Regardless the absence of Adobe (and Apple) didn’t make a dent in the success of PhotoPlus ‘09. Like last year I was only able to attend on Saturday this year because of other training commitments. In ‘08, Saturday was a sparsely populated day and the beginnings of the recession could be felt by the nearly empty aisles in the cavernous Javits center. This year however Saturday was elbow to elbow in the aisles, and that is in spite of a rainy, dreary, Saturday in NYC. That’s a great sign for the photo industry and a sign that photography - as profession, art, and hobby - is thriving. See you there in 2010!
